The only way to know with 100% certainty is to order directly from Koss. From the million other threads I've seen over the last 10 years fakes may have: no sticker on the end of the AUX jack. stiffer cable. '4' imprinted on the inside of the plastic ear adjustment instead of a '1'. 68ohm impedance. Original is 60ohm. Soundquality wise I was expecting, after reading so much about the Sennheiser PX 100, that these are really great or maybe even better than the Koss Porta Pro, I know when it comes to SQ its always a matter of your own personal taste, but it looked like that many people have this personal taste to prefer the Sennheiser PX 100 over the Koss In 1984 The Koss Porta Pro's were simply designed to be an upgraded portable open ear phone that replaced the relatively poor sounding earphones that came included with one's Walkman, or Walkman clone. Yet in doing so, Koss created a legend. Not only were Porta Pro's ridiculously comfortable, but they sounded great as well. Changing out the pads to the Yaxi pads open up the top end a bit and really help the sound. KPH30i sounded nice at first. A bit more high bass-mid focused than the porta pro, and the soundstage was wider than the porta pro, but I found it had a sibilant spike in the upper frequency that was a bit fatiguing to me. The Porta Pros are an incredible bang for buck and quite honestly put a lot of pricier headphones to shame. However, they're definitely not "end-game" levels of incredible. Though, I still regularly enjoy listening to my set and doubt I'll ever part with them. Porta Pro + FiiO M9 seems to be my office end game for now. Porta Pros should get plenty loud on most devices---but they are 60 ohm headphones, compared to Grado SR60s at 32 ohms. That's not the only factor which affects loudness, but it could be the reason. Devices don't get as loud as they used to, either. I used Porta Pros with a cassette Walkman back in the 80s, and I could get it uncomfortably loud 31,346. I entered this hobby many years ago, and I came across Porta-Pro since whenever it was. Today, I got into it again, just because I wanted some High-Quality, High-fidelity phones for my children! First thing first, I guess, Porta-Pro is very portable, small, flimsy looking, but it is very demanding of power. It shows it in the portable headphone section on my page odd. Ebay Feedback - Old Head-Fi Feedback - FaceBook - YouTube Headphones: T1, T1 Gen 2, HD800, HD700, Elear, Amiron Home, and many more Tonally these are very similar to Porta Pros with the differences coming down to the slightly different enclosure and headband pressure. Sells for $20-30. KSC75 uses a titanium coated version of the same driver and slaps it in an ear-clip format. The result is much clearer treble and quite a bit less bass. mine were sold as 2Pcs Foam Earpad Cushions Pads for Sennheiser PX100 / Koss Porta Pro Headphones. they can be spotted by the "ridge" along the outer edge of the pads. they are thicker than stock pads and give your ears a bit more room from the drivers. Feb 28, 2017 at 8:52 AM Post #12 of 14. I absolutely LOVEEEEEE my Koss porta pros, they are my favourite headphones i’ve ever owned with the yaxi pads. For the music i listen to they sound absolutely wonderful, and the long time comfort and compact size is just amazing. Price vs performance + convenience is nearly unmatched when they go for $25. In the price range there are very good alternatives SQ-wise: The Superluxes and their variants, the TASCAM TH-02 / TEAC CT-H02, IEMS like the Xiaomi Piston and others, it all depends on the usage you are going to give them. fuop • 9 yr. ago. View community ranking In the Top 1% of largest communities on Reddit Looking for an alternative to Sennheiser px 100-ii / Koss Porta Pro I just accidentally broke my pair of PX 100-ii and am in loss of words of it being discontinued. Porta Pro's are bassier and looser, and sound a lot more laid back, but still have insane resolution. They both do. They both also have a significantly wider sound stage than any of the HD6x0 options. My daily driver is a KSC75 on a Porta Pro headband withthis as a cushion. It's super comfortable. edit: formatting nub There's a lot of factors. With normal headphones, they will reproduce the music however it's been mixed and mastered. So if spacial sound wasn't really intended in the mix, than it will sound more 2D. If it's been mixed with soundstage and 3D space in mind, something like the Koss headphones will have that effect. 3KnNIv.
